Description
My academic concerns are broadly aimed at themes in cultural anthropology, focusing on the anthropology of disaster and resilience. I carried out intensive fieldwork in water-related disaster-prone areas in Sri Lanka. I explored and studied how issues of social and cultural relationships and adaptive strategy are handled in particular kinds of resilience contexts. In a sense, I am keen to understand how 'resilience' and 'care' are constructed through notions of development and practices shaping modernization and rural society encounters.
自然や災害とともに生きる技法や世界、まちづくり、住まい方、そしてそれらの描き方や態度を探究しています。その中でも、災害研究における地域に内在する知識と復興、レジリエンスの問題について、主にスリランカをフィールドに包括的な研究を行っています。特に、近年農村部で増加増大しつつある水害常襲地での調査から、国家や市場経済がもたらす近代化と農村社会が構築してきた伝統が交錯する現場において、地縁・血縁に基づく社会的関係、建築の増改築、宝石産業との関わりなどの生存戦略が形成されつつあることに着目して研究しています。最近は地域や自然事象の枠にとらわれず、災害、人新世といった新しい文化人類学における諸テーマに加え、広義の「レジリエンス」や「ケア」と呼ばれる概念にも関心があります。
